ARA Board

Scientist:

Currently ARA has two scientists on staff, one focusing on atmospheric sciences and a second one focusing on Remote Sensing.

We are looking for a third scientist with complementary skills to these two areas. In particular, we would prefer a scientist in the area of air chemistry and air quality, but other areas of airborne environmental sciences will also be considered.

There are no specific qualifications required, but at least an B.Sc. (Hons) in a relevant field is expected. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and enthusiastic about working with aircraft-based sensors. Experience in aviation-related fields would be highly advantageous, but is not mandatory. The activities of the successful candidate will include data processing, including computer programming, and field work.

We can offer a one-year contract in the first instance with the clear intention for continued employment. The salary level will be in accordance with the qualifications of the candidate and is negotiable. The position is available immediately.

Applicants should note that ARA - despite being a Major National Research Facility and hosted by Flinders University - does not receive any base-funding from anywhere, but is 100% self-funded from project income. The successful candidate is expected to actively bring in projects in her/his area of expertise by means of funding applications to relevant agencies in Australia and world-wide, as well as research contracts from public agencies and industry.

Applicants should discuss further details in the first instance with ARA's Chief Scientist, Dr. Jorg M Hacker, either by phone (08-81824000 or 0418-857115) or email Jorg.Hacker@flinders.edu.au.

Junior Technician:

ARA owns a wide range of instrumentation for their research aircraft. Some of the sensor systems are off-the-shelf, others are in-house developments.

We are looking for a technician to assist in the wide range of electronics work, instrumentation maintenance and calibration. The person will be self-motivated and enthusiastic about the work.

There are no formal requirements for qualification, but the successful candidate will have proven skills in analogue and digital electronics, low level programming and at least some experience with meteorological or other instrumentation.

We can offer a one-year contract in the first instance with the clear intention for continued employment. The salary level will be in accordance with the qualifications of the candidate and is negotiable. The position is available immediately.

Possible applicants should discuss the requirements in the first instance with ARA's Chief Scientist, Dr. Jorg M Hacker, either by phone (08-81824000 or 0418-857115) or email Jorg.Hacker@flinders.edu.au.
